About jake

"I grew up off-grid in Treaty Six Territory of Alberta, and have always loved and respected the Earth and her gifts.  My many creative interests are almost all self-taught and include: traditional beadwork and dreamcatchers, sewing, tie-dying clothing, making jewellery, and more - all with the ultimate goal of making people happy."

Craving Color began as a hobby in 2007 and has been growing & evolving ever since.  jake's hand-crafted gifts have been very popular among local Edmonton farmer's markets and various events. Behind Our Designs

As you will find, much of our work is influenced by Native American art and culture, particularly First Nations woodland beadwork. This ancient art form began with stones, shells, animal hair, and quills. As a result of colonization, European glass beads became available through trade and were the new primary material used by Indigenous craftspeople. Of all the beadwork designs, floral motifs were the most predominant, with some geometric designs being found. Stylistic choices such as plants, symmetry, and color conveyed different messages regarding social, spiritual, and cultural messages.
